Abstract | Harvest is a follow-up study on 1,775 students who entered El Paso Community College, Colorado Springs, Colorado for the fall 1973 term. Data through spring 1976 were analyzed. The study was undertaken to seek answers to the following questions: (1) How do students who enter with basic skills at the elementary, junior high, or high school level compare in achievement after taking compensatory skills courses with students who enter at the same skills level and do not take compensatory skills courses; how do those students compare with students who enter with college level skills? (2) How do veterans compare with non-veterans? (3) How do minority students compare with each other and with whites? (4) How do women students compare with men students? (5) How do students for whom placement tests are waived compare with students who took placement tests? (6) How well did the follow-up to placement testing (counseling and enrollment in the appropriate level course) work? (Author/MV) |
